A cozy way to play Lines
Lines — sometimes known as Color Lines or Ball Lines — is a relaxing
puzzle game where you slide colorful balls across the board to create
lines of five or more matching colors. Every line you clear helps your
cat companion stay happy, and makes a little more room to breathe on a
board that keeps filling up.
Keep your cat fed
Your cat companion feeds on the balls you clear, so its hunger meter
slowly drops the longer you go without completing a line. If the meter
hits zero, you lose 2 points — and keep losing 2 more points every move
after that, until you feed your cat again by clearing a line. Keep an
eye on the meter and don't let your cat go hungry for too long!
Challenges: play your way to a higher score
Three challenge levels appear on the side of the board, and you pick
which ones to take on. They're built for players who want to score more
and faster: the harder the challenge, the more points it's worth. Choose
the pace that suits you, from a relaxed line or two to a full run at all
three.
A few tips from your cat
- Plan a path before moving a ball so you do not block the board.
- Look for possible lines and future combinations at the same time.
- Use the corners carefully because they can limit your next move.
- Clear longer lines whenever possible for a better score.
- Watch your cat's hunger meter — a line cleared in time keeps your
score safe.
Frequently asked questions
How do I score points in Lines?
Create lines of five or more matching balls horizontally, vertically,
or diagonally. A line of exactly five gives 5 points, and longer lines
score even more. Completing challenges is another way to score.
Can I undo a move?
Yes. Use Undo to return to the previous board position. You can undo only one move.
Is Lines free to play?
Yes. Lines is free to play directly in your browser, with no download
or account required.
How many new balls appear after each move?
Three new balls appear on the board after every move that doesn't
clear a line — so plan ahead before the board fills up.
What happens if my cat's hunger meter reaches zero?
You lose 2 points, and lose 2 more with every move after that until
you clear a line and feed your cat again.
What are the challenges on the side of the board?
They're three optional difficulty levels you can pick from at any
time. Harder challenges are worth more points, so you can choose exactly
how much of a scoring boost you want to go for.
Is this the same game as Color Lines or Lines 98?
Yes — Lines follows the same classic five-in-a-row rules as the
well-known Color Lines and Lines 98 puzzle games, with our own cozy cat
twist.
